To catechize is to echo. We are called to echo the love of God to our children. Would you like to echo God's love to others? Do you know someone who would?
The goal of Religious Education is faith formation -- to help make a person's "faith become living, conscious, and active, through the light of instruction."
Pope Francis tells us that being a catechist is a state of being rather than a state of working. Being a catechist has to do with life. A person guides others towards Jesus through their words, life and testimony.
He does not mean that you must be fully sorted out before you teach. "Jesus does not say: go, sort yourselves out. No! Jesus says, Go, I am here with you! If we go, if we go out to bring his Gospel with love, with true apostolic spirit, with frankness, He (Jesus) walks with us, before us always [preceding] us." Being a catechist is having a willingness to share the love of Christ with others.
If you are feeling the call to become a catechist, then please complete an application (found to the right) and the Shield the Vulnerable requirements. If you are already a catechist at Good Shepherd, we thank you for your dedication and commitment in bringing Christ to our young people.
