Good Shepherd is considering providing mentors to DeSoto Trail Elementary School as part of a school adoption program. One way to support students in need academically, socially or emotionally is to participate in the mentoring program.
DeSoto Trail Elementary says: Research shows that a child who meets with a mentor once a week is less likely to try illegal drugs, experiment with alcohol, skip school, or get into a fight. A child who meets with a mentor is more likely to succeed in school. DeSoto Trail participates in the Leon County Schools mentoring program.
Becoming an LCS mentor is easy and rewarding: You will complete a background screen and mandatory training first. Then you will get to work making a difference in a child’s life!!
At this time DeSoto Trail needs 10 mentors to provide their students with the support needed for success in life; 3 people have already expressed interest. Once registered, mentoring requires only 1 hour per week of the mentor's time at the school. If you are interested in participating in this program, contact Suzanne Printy [email protected]. Thank you!
